The Furnace has worked with a number of New Zealand artists so that the different activity packs expose children to different styles of illustration. Read about the artists featured below.
Sam Bell is an artist and illustrator. She lives at Makara Beach in Wellington with her husband, two sons and dog. She is passionate about NZ wildlife and the natural world. Sam’s favourite bird is the friendly fantail and her favourite bug is the gentle giant weta. Over the years Sam has enjoyed working in different areas such as ceramics, glass blowing, face painting, illustration and art tutoring. She’s looking forward to putting pencil to paper again, now that both boys are at school!
Sonya Walker is a designer, creative and AUT graduate. From Whangarei, she lives with her husband in their tiny house and enjoys the beautiful walks and beaches in sunny Northland. Her favourite sea creature is the dolphin.
Hannah Webster is a textile designer and illustrator living in Wellington, with a huge love for New Zealand botanicals. She has a passion for capturing the humble and understated beauty of the NZ bush through her detailed line drawings.
